We recently spoke to Sharon Gunther,
President of Fresh Design Group Inc.,
about how you can balance beauty and functionality in your homes during these times.

Here is what she had to say:

Now more than ever, we are staying home and cooking, so it’s so important to have a kitchen that is both gorgeous and efficient. Many of us are trying to shop only once a week or less, and really stock up. Effective storage solutions are key so that you can access what you need and so that your kitchen doesn’t get cluttered.

One great solution is rollouts. Since many cabinets are two feet deep, rollouts in an ample size pantry cabinet keep your items from getting lost in the back. This Huntington Bay kitchen has rollouts that can hold more than 100 pounds each, and are soft close. Now this couple gets to find their food, instead of it passing the expiration date. The homeowner wanted a particular blue to match her chandelier, and we hand selected the perfect custom shade.

The exterior of your storage can be as beautiful as the interior is functional. Here, we have panelled French doors surrounded by side panels with custom inset drawers and polished nickel hardware. Inside, this workhorse includes rattan slide out baskets and easy access storage on the doors. The pantry shelves are about a foot deep so nothing gets lost in the back, and they run floor to ceiling so there is plenty of space for everything. The interior shelves can be adjusted up or down to make room for taller items.

Here’s another favorite to have right next to your cooktop or range. Spice pullout drawers make everything so easy to see. They can come up to three feet wide, in case you really want to spice things up!

Rather than using truck deliveries, products are transported to the Huntington store across the Long Island Sound from Norwalk, Connecticut.

The trip with a diesel truck would normally take from 3-6 hours for delivery, instead it takes only 1 hour and 10 minutes through the waters via a lithium-battery-powered hybrid catamaran.

The Townwide Fund of Huntington

As a board member of The Townwide Fund I am proud to share some of the amazing efforts that have been going on over the past month.

Many of you have heard of the fund, but very few hear about who, what and where the grants and resources go towards.

The Townwide Fund bridges the gap between dwindling governmental support for local charities and the increasing needs of community residents.

The Huntington YMCA is one of the organizations we have helped this past month:

The Y has been providing day care service currently set up at Countrywood School in South Huntington for the children of Huntington Healthcare Workers and First Responders.

This program is serving between 15 and 20 children each day. It continues to grow as the needs grow. As you know the demand for nurses and first responders is significant.

And although they are only serving a small number of children, for those children and those families they are a true blessing.

The Countrywood program is a collaboration with the school district, Northwell health and the Y. The district provides the school, the maintenance staff and a partial subsidy for South Huntington Students. Northwell has been providing a nurse or med tech to do wellness checks at arrival, however this will probably end soon as these staff need to be at the hospital. And the Y provides everything else, staff, supplies, snack, supervision, tutoring (kids are doing school work virtually each day).
